Teachers and students from Qufu Normal University took part in a variety of activities at the 2022 China (Qufu) International Confucius Cultural Festival and the 8th Nishan World Civilization Forum, participating in cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries, displaying their academic research results, and broadcasting the “Quyuan sound” of traditional culture and contemporary innovation.
Xing Guang, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Ji Hongtao, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Qufu Normal University, attended the opening ceremony of the 8th Nishan World Civilization Forum and participated in the 2022 Nishan China-Greece Classical Civilization Dialogue. This dialogue focused on the topic of “Tracing its Roots and Looking Ahead: The Origin and Prospects of Civilization”. At the meeting, more than 30 renowned experts and scholars from various countries, including China, Greece, Egypt, India, Iran, and Peru, engaged in extensive and profound discussions. Qufu Normal University’s Iranian experts, Dr. Javad Yaghout and Dr. Nasim Kharkanghamsari, also took part in the dialogue. Dr. Javad Yaghout gave a speech on “Education in Ancient China and Ancient Persia” at the conference. Moreover, the two experts were interviewed by CGTN and Dazhong Daily during the dialogue.
Zhang Honghai, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of Qufu Normal University, attended the Nishan Famous Universities’ Presidents Forum and hosted the Presidents’ salon. At the forum, representatives from over seventy universities, including the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Peking University, Fudan University, Sungkyunkwan University of Korea, Heriot-Watt University of the United Kingdom, and University of Arizona of the United States, gathered to discuss the concept of “the Doctrine of Universities” through a combination of online and offline activities.
Lu Guoqiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Qufu Normal University, took part in Youth Forum of the Nishan World Civilization Forum. This forum focused on the topic of “Inheritance and Innovation of World Civilization and Youth Participation” and saw the participation of over fifty experts, scholars, and young people from eight different countries and regions, including China, Russia, and the United States.
Many experts and scholars from Qufu Normal University attended the forum and engaged in the exchange and discussion activities. At the Nishan Cultural Relics Forum, three esteemed speakers from Qufu Normal University, Wu Peilin, Dean of the School of History and Culture, Wang Jingchuan, Vice Dean of the School of History and Culture, and Song Lilin, Deputy Director of the Center of Excellent Traditional Culture and Education, gave keynote speeches on the scientific preservation, value mining, and dynamic utilization of Confucian cultural legacy.
Distinguished Professors Yan Binggang and Tu Keguo from the Confucius Culture Research Institute, Professor Cheng Jichun from the School of History and Culture, Professor Liuwei from the School of Politics and Public Administration, Professor Wang Yuemei and Associate Professor Zheng Zhiwen from the Confucius Culture Research Institute participated in dialogues and exchange activities with various themes, demonstrating Qufu Normal University’s high level of academic research in Confucianism and its excellent traditional culture. Professor Wang Yuemei remarked that faculty and students of Qufu Normal University have adopted the essential spirit of the significant speech delivered by Xi Jingpi, General Secretary of the Party Committee of China, while he visited Qufu, by constructing an “academic special area” focused on Confucianism and traditional culture, thereby contributing to the integration of traditional culture and contemporary innovation, and fulfilling their mission of promoting culture for the country.
In addition, over 300 students from Qufu Normal University were selected to participate in the volunteer work of the forum. They showed outstanding professional competence and generous dedication, which highlighted the admirable characteristics of Quyuan students and displayed the youth power of Quyuan. The students found this to be a rewarding experience, as it enabled them to broadened their horizons, to improve themselves, and to strengthen their cultural confidence in the process of witnessing cultural exchanges, further enhancing their sense of honor and mission as young students from a university located in the birthplace of Confucius.
